Counselling

Providing you with the space to talk, explore, and resolve

I came to Seb at a very low point in my life, having already visited a counsellor. That didn’t work out for me as I didn’t feel the person was equipped - your counsellor shouldn’t break down in tears as you tell your tale…. Anyway, clearly I was meant to find Seb as I immediately felt more of a connection and felt that he was the right guy, in the right place, and for the right reasons. Over the weeks he helped steady me and get me into a place where I could cope and get back on with life. I haven't looked back since. I really cannot speak highly enough of Seb, he is a genuinely lovely person. Many thanks Seb.

Counselling is all about talking over your particular symptom or problem with a professional who has both knowledge and experience at helping people either resolve, or better manage, such issues. It’s about have the space and support to work through a problem and bring it to a satisfactory conclusion.

IS COUNSELLING JUST 'TALKING'?

Many people think that counselling is just talking about your symptoms or problems. Naturally they think, “Why bother? What is talking going to do anyway?” It’s true that many counsellors work this way. However as a therapist that has experience in a number of different disciplines, ranging from cognitive therapy and coherence therapy, to clinical hypnotherapy and analytical therapy, I aim to take a more active role in helping you not only understand your symptoms, but resolve, or better manage, them. In fact, I believe that many seemingly senseless or irresolvable symptoms and problems can be transformed when the right approach is used. As a counsellor my job isn’t just to listen, but to work with you towards finding successful solutions to your problems.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SESSIONS?

In your counselling sessions we relax in the comfy armchairs of my private office with a nice warm drink and talk openly and confidentially about the issues that you are struggling with. We explore what’s happening and aim to find a deeper level of understanding. In many cases my clients aren’t struggling with specific symptoms such as depression or panic attacks. They are struggling with existential issues such as divorce, ill health, work-stress, relationship problems, and body image issues, or they’re struggling to overcome a history of abuse or weight problems. Either way, I draw on my professional skill to help you improve your situation and take back the control in your life.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION?

The initial consultation usually lasts around 1hr - 1hr30mins. In the initial consultation we start by discussing what you'd like some help with. I'll then ask a few questions about your current life and your background, as well as doing one or two quick questionnaires that will help me get to know you better. Once we agree on a way forward we'll then arrange a date from which to commence. You are of course under no obligation to commence treatment if it doesn't feel right. The main aim of the initial consultation is so that we can both get a feel for if we're suited to work together.
