Clinical Hypnotherapy

Using hypnosis to help with your symptoms

As soon as I entered the clinic I was made to feel at ease. Seb's approachable and friendly manner allowed me to talk freely of my reasons for seeking therapy. I was reassured of any uncertainties I had and I felt comfortable asking questions. The therapy itself was conducted in a professional manner and any anxieties I had were quickly allayed as the process began. Best of all my presentation went without a hitch! Thanks Seb.

At The Bristol Psychotherapy & Hypnotherapy Clinic I practice two distinct forms of hypnotherapy: Clinical Hypnotherapy and Analytical Hypnotherapy. Clinical Hypnotherapy is perhaps the type of therapy most people think of when they think of hypnotherapy. It is often referred to as Suggestion Therapy as it involves the application of carefully worded hypnotic 'suggestions' that are delivered to your unconscious mind while you recline in a comfortable, relaxing state of hypnosis.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SESSIONS?

Hypnosis is a deeply relaxing experience that most people find entirely pleasurable - in the sessions you are slowly and safely induced into a hypnotic state whereupon specific suggestions will be given to you that aim to alter unconscious patterns and associations in order to influence your behaviour at an unconscious level. For your comfort, and to enhance your hypnosis experience, I provide relaxed lighting and cosy Lazyboy recliner chair, I also filter in soothing music through soft-cushioned Senheiser headphones. For increased effectiveness the sessions are also recorded and a download is sent to you via email so you can listen at home in order to supplement the work we do in the office.

COMBINED COGNITIVE & HYPNOTHERAPY SESSIONS

A number of studies are highlighting the increased effectiveness of hypnotherapy when used in conjunction with cognitive therapy. In some cases, combined cognitive and hypnotherapy sessions may be more suitable or desirable as they provide you with powerful tools to tackle your symptoms on both the conscious and unconscious level. In the cognitive part of the sessions we'll crack out white-board (and the tea!) in order to explore how common unconscious thought processes can be creating or maintaining your symptoms, and you're provided with action steps you can take to not only tackle your symptoms but also improve your life. Clients usually really enjoy this element as it gives you a greater sense of control and a more active role in your treatment. Find out more about cognitive therapy, what it involves, and how it works.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED? WHAT WILL IT COST?

The number of hypnosis sessions required is different for everybody. However the average is around 4 - 8 sessions. Sessions typically last around 40mins and are charged at £70 per sessions.

IS HYPNOTHERAPY SAFE?

Absolutely. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis isn't magic; its effect is purely psychological. The fact is that whenever we relax deeply and focus our attention we become more susceptible to the useful and constructive effect of suggestion. Understandably people occasionally worry that they could be influenced to do something that they don't want to do. Allow me to reassure you that nothing could be further from the truth. We are only capable of responding to suggestions that we actively want or desire and that don't contravene our moral code.

Consider for a moment a good friend suggesting to you to go to restaurant that you really don't want to go to. No amount of persuasion will work if you have made up your mind. On the other hand, the same friend could easily suggest to you to go to a particular restaurant if you already have the will or desire to do so. The fact that you would like help in the first place implies that you have the will to change your situation, and so the effect of clinical hypnosis can be incredibly powerful in influencing and augmenting your pre-existing desire and capacity to change.
